Summer features exciting cultural celebrations, such as the Malta Arts Festival, the International Jazz Festival and Summer Folk Festival. In August, the skies light up with the colourful explosions of “La Notte di San Lorenzo”, the annual fireworks show.

Autumn is the perfect time of year for foodies to visit the islands, with Żejt iż-Żejtun (an olive picking festival), the Hamrun Chocolate Festival and the Pumpkin Festival all taking place. Malta’s Independence Day is also celebrated on the 21st of September.

The Mdina Grand Prix in early October welcomes back one of the world’s finest classic car races. Inviting participants from all over the world to race their vintage vehicles through the medieval streets and countryside.

Malta embraces the spirit of Christmas throughout December, with a number of events taking place across the country. In January, the International Baroque Festival plays tribute to Malta’s rich heritage. February is perhaps the liveliest and most colourful time to visit the island, when the week-long party of Carnival precedes the abstention of Lent. Carnival has been celebrated in Malta for hundreds of years.

As Catholic country, many of Malta’s spring events relate to Holy Week and Easter. Those lucky enough to visit Valletta during this time can witness huge processions as religious statues are carried through the city streets, accompanied by live music on Easter Sunday.
