During a press conference at Offbeat Music Bar in Valletta, The Phoenicia’s Director of Sales and Marketing Rob Bruno announced that the recently renovated 5-star hotel has decided to renew its commitment to Maltese culture by supporting The Malta Jazz Festival’s 28th edition especially as Valletta is European Capital of Culture this year. The Phoenicia had previously been a sponsor of The Malta Jazz Festival since its inception prior to closing for a multi-million euro restoration project in 2015.
The Malta Jazz Festival is a musical event staged every July in Malta, organised by Festivals Malta. Dozens of worldclass musicians have descended on Malta to appear and perform to packed venues, including the spiritual home of The Malta Jazz Festival at Ta’ Liesse. Last year the festival spilled over to a number of other venues including Valletta’s streets.
Some of the world-renowned jazz musicians to have played The Malta Jazz Festival include Wayne Shorter, John Patitucci, Diana Krall, Chick Corea, Al Di Meola, Natalie Cole, Betty Carter, Michel Petrucciani, Richard Bona and Mike Stern.
The Phoenicia has been a major supporter of art and culture in Malta over the last 70 years and has sponsored The Malta Opera festival, Heritage Malta, various cultural programmes, and has hosted numerous art exhibitions at the hotel as well as forming part of Jazz on the Fringe, part of The Malta Jazz Festival.
Mr. Bruno said, “The expanded format of The Malta Jazz Festival for the week features international performers and virtuosos in a unique setting that we are very proud to support as a major sponsor as well as being the setting for the launch concert on July 16 in our beautiful gardens at The Rotunda starting 20:30. On-stage collaborations, instrumental master classes and workshops are some of the attractions to expect and our team here at The Phoenicia certainly look forward to the atmosphere that accompanies all these activities. For seven days, visitors will be treated to the sounds of exceptional world-class musicians, we are delighted that our management company CampbellGray Hotels recognise the value in continuing to support Maltese arts and culture.”
The Malta Jazz Festival will take place between 16th and 21st July. Early bird tickets are now on sale, click here to find out more.
